Awaken – Skye Malone.
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Romance, Paranormal.
DISCLAIMER: I WAS SENT THIS BOOK FROM THE AUTHOR IN RETURN FOR AN HONEST REVIEW!
Synopsis:
“Running away from home was never Chloe Kowalski's plan. Neither was ending up the target of killers, or having her body change in unusual ways. She only wanted a vacation, someplace far from her crazy parents and their irrational fear of water. She only wanted to do something normal for once, and maybe get to know her best friend's hot stepbrother a bit better at the same time.
But the first day she goes out on the ocean, strange things start to happen. Dangerous things that should be impossible. Things to which 'normal' doesn't even begin to apply.
Now madmen are hunting her. A mysterious guy with glowing blue eyes is following her. And her best friend's stepbrother seems to be hiding secrets all his own.
It was supposed to be a vacation. It's turning out to be a whole lot more.”
My thoughts:
Awaken is the first book in The Awakened Fate series. Awaken is the first mermaid book I’ve read and its fair to say I LOVED IT!! I was honestly a little bit nervous when I first started this book as I had no idea what to expect and whether I would enjoy it. I’m so happy to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I loved the turn of events, the discoveries that Chloe made, the secrets that were kept away from her all of her life. I found that I was attached to this book, always eager to know what’s going to happen next. I felt this this story was keeping me captive right till the end.. And now I want more.
I am already planning to read the rest of The Awakened Fate Series in the near future. I’m so interested to know what’s happening next, what happens to Chloe? Also what happens to Zeke and Noah? Is there going to be any luurrrvvveee? Awaken was left on such a big cliff-hanger for me!
Skye Malone’s writing is amazing in this book. Skye has an awesome imagination and creativity as well as a great gift in writing an amazing story that latches onto you.
I highly recommend this book to ALL of my reader friends and followers. Even if you have never read a mermaid book before, or if you didn’t like the ones you have read before.. Read Awaken and I guarantee that you will love this book and want to read the whole series!
Also, a big thank you to Skye Malone and her assistant for agreeing to send me this amazing book, signing it and adding some beautiful goodies!!

DISCLAIMER: I WAS SENT THIS BOOK FROM THE AUTHOR IN RETURN FOR AN HONEST REVIEW!
Synopsis:
“Sam Baron is about to get the shock of his life. First his substitute English teacher claims to have turned his old teacher into a lizard; then a strange dwarf Rego arrives and claims Sam is from a magical realm called Orkney. When his friends are taken prisoner, it’s up to Sam to save them.
Sam embarks on a journey to Orkney through a stonefire to find his friends, but when he arrives, he discovers that an ancient curse has turned the sun a poisonous red and threatens to destroy the land. With only a young witch girl to guide him, Sam must choose: save his friends, or stop the red sun from consuming the land?
Drawing on Norse mythology, The Red Sun follows Sam’s journey to uncover the truth about his past- a journey during which he has to overcome the simmering anger inside of him, learn to channel his growing magical powers, and find a way to forgive the father who left him behind.”
My Thoughts:
This book is in a series! Book Two is called Kalifus Rising.
I didn’t take me at all long to read through this book. I loved it so much I will not lie! I found it so interesting and kept wondering what is going to happen next?! It is a middlegrade book so its an easy read while being extremely adventurous and intriguing. The pages melt between your hands and you will find that you quickly loose track of time and go into a new whole new world reading The Red Sun! There are currently two books the Legend of Orkney series, the second book bring Kalifus Rising. Now I haven’t read the second book yet but I am extremely excited to getting around to reading it in November.
I loved the style of Alane’s writing, it drew me into the book more and more. I felt attached to the book from the fist page. The Red Sun only gets better and better with every chapter that you read of this book.
I honestly did not expect the story to turn out the way it did, there was many twist and turns but it makes you really eager to carry on reading the story to find out what happens next and to find out how it ends for Sam and his friends.. Did he save his friends.. Did he cure the red sun.. What happens?!?! Pick up a copy of The Red Sun and find out for yourself! I highly recommend you all doing so.. Even if you have never read middlegrade before, or if the last middlegrade you read wasn’t your cup of tea. Try The Red Sun, it was my first ever middlegrade book and I personally loved it and I cannot wait to read book two and a whole lot more of this genre!!

So when a secy strnger turns out to be an arrogant, cab-stealing jerk, Marnie isnöt surprised. If only her rash reaction to his rudeness hadn’t resulted in her arrest…

And when Danny’s brother begins to pursue her, Marnie and Danny must both come to terms with the painful secrets that haunt them. They’re both broken...but maybe together they can be unbreakable’
My Thoughts:
When I was sent this book from the author I didn't know anything about this book. When I started to read I found out it was about two addicts who were struggling to stay sober. I found the book really interesting and learnt about the two main characters life in an amazing way! This book DOES contain mature/sexual scenes!
I will have to admit that The Prince's Plan is NOT light read.. It can be quiet heavy but I still liked the way the book was. You will immediately feel drawn into theirs lives and what it was like for Danny and Marnie to stay sober and get the lives that they truly deserved.
E.M. Youman has done such an incredible job writing her book. But, you can't say that her book is sweet or a chick lit.. This books is telling a story on a very dangerous and very real problem that many people suffer from, the struggles it causes, the losses you go through.. It is all written in the most amazing way! I was amazed when I finished this book as it was truly incredible!!
This story is not slow paced in any way, you will fly through the books easily. The difference between Marnie and Danny at the beginning compared to them at the end is very clear and easy to see. they have gone through a lot together and learnt to trust each other slowly.
I loved The Prince's Plan it was simply beautiful and I can highly recommend it!

The Unexpected Everything - Morgan Matson
Synopsis: “ ‘It didn’t seem possible that after years of being beyond careful, watching all the tiniest details and tying never to make a mistake, we’d ended up here anyway…’
Before the scandal, Andie had important plans. And zero of them involve walking an insane amount of dogs, being in the same house as her dad or hanging out with Clark. Now there’s a whole summer stretching out in front of Andie without a plan. And Andie always sticks to the plan.
But here’s the thing - if everything’s always mapped out, you can never find the unexpected. And where’s the fun in that?”
My Thoughts: I didn’t finish this book… Personally I couldn’t get into it and was constantly putting it down. This book didn’t attach to me the way books normally do, i didn’t always want to pick it up and spend all my hours reading. Half way through the book I ended up putting it away and moving on to my next book as I just couldn’t connect with it.
I hope to be trying The Unexpected Everything again in the near future.
Rating: 2.5/5
Price: The prices for this book on Amazon are as followed: Paperback: £5.99, Hardcover: £13.53, Kindle Edition: £13.30. Prices will vary from other bookstores & online stores.

Illuminae – Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff.
Synopsis: “This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.
This afternoon, her planet was invaded.
The year is 2575 and two rival mega-corporation are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it,. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra – who are barley even talking to each other – are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with enemy warship in hot pursuit.
But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is migrating, with terrifying results; the fleet’ AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge with say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, its clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.”
My thoughts: Illuminae is a truly unique book that is extremely fascinating. The unique format of this book is what makes the books really stand out. When I started to read this book I didn’t know a lot about it, I only knew that people loved it, and after reading it, I 100% agree with everyone I LOVED the books so much it was beautifully written, romance, heartbreak, family, sadness. I had no idea what was coming in the book and where it would end but it was amazzinnggg!!! The ending had me in total “You go girl mode” The authors of this book created an utterly awesome world with great character, intense moments. It was funny, sad and creepy all at the same time. It draws you in to this unique world you want to know what happens, who survives, what goes down and (if you were me) who was behind Illuminae writing the files as well as who was behind the attack. I loved this book (I think love is an understatement however!!) It left me in complete and utter excitement at the end and I cannot wait to pick the second book up and read it, I need to know what happens now!!
Rating: 5/5
Prices: The prices of this book on Amazon are as followed: Paperback: £8.99, Hardback: £16.81, Kindle Edition: £4.72. Prices will vary from other bookstores & online stores.

A Court of Mist and Fury - Sarah J. Maas
Synopsis - "Feyre survived Amarantha's clutches to return to the Spring Court - but at a steep cost. Though she now has the powers of the High Fae, her heart remains human, and it can't forget the terrible deeds she performed to save Tamlin's people.
Nor has Feyre forgotten her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court. As Feyre navigates its dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms - and she might be key to stopping it. But only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future - and the future of a world cleaved in two."
Contains mature content. Not suitable for younger readers.
My Review - A Court of Mist and Fury was a truly beautiful book. The series is phenomenal. If you thought that ACOTAR was good, you are going to love ACOMAF because this book is on a WHOLEEEE new level and it was amazing!!!! I had extremely high expectations and I am so happy to say that those expectations... they were passed over, good job Sarah J. Maas my mind was highly, HIGHLY blown!
The ending to this book was amazing, though it’s not the complete end to the story... If you get what I mean ;)... Oh yeah there’s a THIRD book to be released!! AHHHH I'M SO EXCITED!! I am defiantly going to be pre-ordering when it hits that time and I cannot contain my excitement for that day no matter how far away it may be!!
I am going to highly, HIGHLY recommend reading ACOTAR series as I promise that it will not let you down especially if you are a fan of high fantasy! ACOTAR seemed like the intro to the story and what was going on, kind of like giving you a back story and reasons preparing you for what you go to find in ACOMAF where things really start to go down (the first book was still amazing nonetheless don’t get me wrong I LOVED it!)
However, if you are not a fan of really intimate and sexual scenes, I suggest that you give this book a pass.
Favourite Quote:
“To the stars who listen – and the dreams that are answered.”
“I am broken and healing, but every piece of my heart belongs to you”
Rating - 5/5

Infernal Devices: Clockwork Angel (Book One) - Cassandra Clare
Synopsis - "Magic is dangerous – but love is more dangerous still... When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray arrives in England during the reign of Queen Victoria, something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural fold stalk the gaslit streets. Friendless and hunted, Tessa seeks refuge with the Shadowhunters, a band of warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons. Drawn ever deeper into their world, she finds herself fascinated by – and torn between – two best friends and quickly realizes that love may be the most dangerous magic of all."
My Review - I didn't really enjoy this book I have to admit. I've read around half the book but I just can't seem connect with it. To me it drags on a lot and is quite boring. Ive tried to read it on different days but I just didn't feel at all drawn into it or even highly interested with Clockwork Angel like I am with most books, which has put me off the book more.
I may possibly give Clockwork Angel another try in a couple of months or so but as for now... I didn't particularly enjoy this book which is upsetting for the most part as I did have high hopes for it due to the good reviews I have seen floating around. But maybe I will enjoy it at another time.. Let's wait and see..
This is only a short review as I don't have much to say as I didn't get into it and finish it..
Rating - 1/5

A Court Of Thornes And Roses - Sarah J. Maas
Synopsis -
"Feyre's survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill - the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price ...
Dragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre's presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why, her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever."
My Review - Fantasy has never really been my go-to book genre, however I think my opinions have HIGHLY changed after reading A Court of Thornes and Roses. I loved the way the book was written, I especially loved the front cover of the book and the little design on the chapters.
The romance, magic, adventure was all gripping which made me find the book extremely enticing. Since I started reading the book I have felt attached to the book which led to me not wanting to put the book down or wanting to read when I wasn’t quite able to, which is due to me being away on holiday with my family.
I loved the unexpected twist that happened and that made me more drawn into it, eager to find out what happens next, this really excited me as I couldn’t wait to find out what surprised Sarah J. Maas had in mind for us all!
I think that this is 100% enjoyable for anyone, even if you’re not really into fantasy, definitely pick up a copy of A Court of Thornes and Roses up from your nearest book store or online, I highly recommend it. As for someone who is more of a Contemporary Romance genre girl, I have definitely picked up a few more fantasy books to give a try and I can't wait.
I am now currently reading A Court of Mist and Fury and I can’t wait to produce a series review once I’ve finished this book! I think this is an amazing series so far!
Also!! Sarah J. Maas is currently writing the third book for this series!! THE THIRD BOOK IS IN PROCESS EEKK!!!!! I will be holding a discussion about this news once I have finished A Court of Mist and Fury so that we can all talk about what we hope to see happen in the third book. I can’t wait to talk about it with you guys!!

Anna and the French Kiss - Stephanie Perkins
Synopsis -
" Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. Which is why she is less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris--until she meets Étienne St. Clair. Smart, charming, beautiful, Étienne has it all...including a serious girlfriend.
But in the City of Light, wishes have a way of coming true. Will a year of romantic near-misses end with their long-awaited French kiss?"
My Review - I thought that Anna and the french kiss was alright. It isn’t the best romance book I’ve ever read but I still liked it. I have to admit I did get this finished within 2 days, while I was on holiday, I do think that this is a great beach read though!! I do find this quite a realistic teenage romance book, which sometimes isn’t the easiest to find.
Anna is extremely passionate about films, she runs a blog where she leaves reviews and has discussions about films she saw in the cinema. Anna's dream is to study film and to one day be the nation's greatest fil critic. The great news for Anna is that Paris is a dream, they have so many cinemas, showing old films. However, unfortunately for Anna, film isn't in her class curriculum!!
Étienne is that classic boy that everyone falls in love with. He has every girl at the School of America in Paris (also known as SOAP in the book), falling all over themselves for him. He is beautiful in his own different way, he is funny, smart and also holds a English accent. However, he has a GIRLFRIEND!!! This fact created such an amazing tension between Anna and Étienne, which I found intriguing to read, this had also caused some arguments and jealousy between them both as well.
One of the best things in the book I think is the slow progression of their friendship and the building of the romantic tension that is between them. It is shown all throughout the book that Anna and Étienne spend quite a lot of time together, this makes it become clear that they are drawn to each other. However, with their current circumstances it is making it impossible for them both to act on their feelings.

Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children - Ransom Riggs
Synopsis -
"A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of curious photographs.
A horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive."
My Review - I'm not sure how words can even describe this book, it's utterly amazing. remarkable, BEAUTIFUL! Just wow!!! I loved this book so much , the story blew me away and I was truly addicted to it. I never wanted to put it down, I felt attached and drawn into this amazing book. It honestly felt like i was being taken into a whole new world and learning all about them, it feels like you are there, getting to see and hear whats going on.
The whole time i was reading this book i was able to imagine every little thing, it so amazing and i loved that this book sparks up your imagination so well and paints such an amazing picture in your mind.
as the story progresses you feel more drawn into it with every word, eager to know whats about to happen, whats around the corner and what Jacob wants and needs to find out! I also think that the idea of adding photographs in added such a great addition to it the book. It made it more spectacular when you went through the book to know what the character looked like making it seem more realistic when you pictured it in your head as well.
I cant wait to read the rest of this series, which i am yet to buy! None the less i am so excited to get my hands on the other two books and to be able to read them as i think the first book was amazing i have such high hopes for the Hollow city and Library of lost souls.

When We Collided – Emery Lord
Synopsis –
“Seventeen-year-old Jonah Daniels has lived in Verona Cove, California, his whole life and only one thing has changed: his farther used to be alive, and now ‘ not. Reeling from the tragedy, Jonah must take care of his family.
Enter Vivi Alexander, new girl in town.
Vivi is in love with life. A gorgeous, unfiltered hurricane of thoughts and feelings, she transformers Jonah’s family and changed his life.
But there are always consequences when worlds collide . . .”
My Review – When We Collided is such a beautiful novel, it is about a teenage romance (Vivi Alexander & Jonah Daniels), both of which are suffering. Vivi loves to leave her make around places by writing “Vivi is here”. There things Jonah doesn’t know and Vivi’s life but he is soon to learn about them. They have their ups and downs like every couple does, then they will kiss and make up. When one of them crashes the other is there to help them feel better. Then theres an unexpected twist, they both get hurt, Vivi more then Jonah. Thats when her mum decides to tell Jonah about vivi’s mental illness.
This book also sheds a light onto family problems. Both Vivi and Jonah have their own problems with their family’s and it is shown throughout the book that there can be struggles.
I love the way this book protays mental illness, as I, myself suffering from a couple of mental illnesses while also knowing some people who do aswell. But this book doesnt bash anyone with problems. It teaches people what its like and how it feels to suffer. I love, LOVE the way Emery Lord has wrote about the issues of two teenagers.
It all starts by Jonahs little sister asking her to come over for dinner, altough Vivi has no idea about the struggle at Jonah’s house. But that is soon to change and Vivi makes a big impact on the Daniels’ family lives. Emery Lord shows the ups and downs of mental illness, the good and dark days you will go through when suffering from the problems.
One of my favioroute and most funniest moments in this book for me was: ‘Vivi presses her for more. “Okay, clear your mind. Like totally blank-are you picturing nothing in youur head? Nothing at all. Infinite blank space.” Leah pinches her eyes shut. “uh-huh.” “You can be anything, anything in the whole world. Imagine the entire blue-and-green planet with swirly white clouds-the way it looks from space. Out of everything on this enormous Earth, what do you want to be?” Leah considers this. “A peacock.” – I just love the way Vivi describles the world and how she thinks it would look from space to ask Leah (a five year old) what she wants to be the most. When I read that leah wanted to be a peacock it brought a smile to my face and made me laugh.
I’ll leave my review here before I give any spoilers, although I could sit and talk about When We Collided for hours!! It is a wonderful, wonderful book, I highly recommend it to you all!

Beautiful Broken Things – Sara Barnard
Synopsis –
“I was brave
She was reckless
We were trouble
Best friends Caddy and Rosie are inseparable. Their differences have brought them closer, but as she turns sixteen Caddy begins to wish she could be a bit more like Rosie – confident, funny and interesting. Then Suzanne comes into their lives: beautiful, damaged, exciting and mysterious, and things get a whole lot more complicated. As Suzanne’s past is revealed and her present begins to unravel, Caddy begins to see how much fun a little trouble can be. But the course of both friendship and recovery is rougher than either girl realizes, and Caddy is about to learn that downward spirals have a momentum of their own.”
My Review – This book is about friendship, troubles and families. I enjoyed this book so very much, it was happy with so sad, upsetting twists in it. Learning about Suzanne can tug on your heart a little bit. I could not put this book down and completed it in a matter of days. It pulls you into the life of the 3 main character: Caddy, Rosie and Suzanne. It is a truly amazing novel and coming towards the end it was quite shocking. I struggled to put the book down as I was always wondering what happens next?! It was such a compelling, amazing book. However, there was a few points in the book that did rather anger me and parts I did find a little bit boring myself, so for this I rate this book.
If you buy this book in Zoella’s book club at WHSmiths the cover will be different (it is a light blue colour). As I brought mine in the book club!
Rating – 3.5/5
